This concert will begin with the wild sonic ride of Adams’ motoric score and end with perhaps the greatest of all English orchestral works—the Enigma Variations. Elgar’s sensual homage to his circle of friends (14 friends and a dog are represented) cemented the composer’s reputation as a master craftsman. Between these two works is Prokofiev’s first violin concerto, which captures both the Romantic sensibility and sarcastic strands in the composer’s inimitable style.

America, Leonard Bernstein left a lasting impact on the world of orchestral
music. Join Maestro Wardell, guest soprano Anna Feucht, and the OSO in
celebrating his legacy with some of his greatest works: Candide Overture,
Symphonic Dances from West Side Story, the powerful Jeremiah Symphony,
and his incredible movie score, On the Waterfront.

From Rachmaninoff’s sweeping Second Piano Concerto, to Respighi’s majestic Pines of Rome, this concert is heavy-hitting on both heart-wrenching, lush orchestration and soul-searching, musical intimacy. Pieces by Berlioz and Puccini will round out this night of symphonic poetry.
